Q:      I already have a trade matching module built in to my portfolio accounting and trading software. Why do I need TDMS? 

A:     You should really ask a current TDMS client. It’s likely they will tell you that any of several TDMS features enable the system to earn its place in their technology suite. For example, TDMS provides greater ability to customize multiple aspects of matching, communicating and reporting of post-trade activities. That can result in significant savings of time and money. Recent research by a professional survey team concluded that TDMS clients spend significantly less on personnel costs for post-trade activities than firms with standard-issue matching software.  

Another important consideration is control. We think one of our clients expressed this best in a recent interview: “It’s kind of an all-in-one package, which is good. In an industry where most middle office and back office people are trying to get to a centralized application – a dashboard or a hub – to look at all of their processes, TDMS does that. We’re doing everything in one application – we affirm, match and resolve.”

Q:    What are Lightspeed’s qualifications to serve the asset management industry? 

A    Our software was initially developed by an asset management company and has been enhanced and modified under Lightspeed's ownership and direction in close collaboration with customers. Our professional staff members have been working on this application for between five and 10 years. This is a mature product (>10 years) that is serving mostly longtime customers ranging in size from $663 million to $995 billion.

Q:     How willing are you to customize the software to meet our specific requirements? 

A:     Very willing. Customization is an important part of who we are. Many of our clients selected Lightspeed for our ability and willingness to customize applications to their configurations and requirements.   We will discuss any client customizations with the appropriate members of your team.  We would draft a work order describing the project scope, deliverables, assumptions, customer responsibilities, fees and schedule.  Once this is approved, we would develop the software, test at our facilities, implement in your test environment, incorporate into your next software release, and implement in production.

Q:     How long will it take to get TDMS up and running from the time I order until the time I begin matching, reporting and archiving? 

A:     Start up times will vary depending on the size of the client, installation of hardware and development of the integration plan. These stages may span 6 to 8 weeks. Average implementation time from inception to go-live is generally four to six weeks after hardware and integration issues have been completed.

Q:   Can I see a side-by-side comparison of trade versus confirm?

A:   The TDMS trade view and resolution view screens as well as many TDMS reports show you side-by-side comparisons of trade allocation to broker confirm. Discrepancies will be highlighted in red to show you what’s wrong.

Q:   Can I force a match or affirmation?

A:   TDMS allows you to force a match between any near-matched or non-matched trade and confirm regardless of any matching discrepancies. You can also match to a hard copy of a confirm received by fax. Any Omgeo confirm in the system can be forced to affirm as well.

Q:  How many version upgrades of TDMS have you released and about how often do you release a new version?

A:   We have released four versions and they have come, on average, about two-years apart.

Q:    How many times have you released improvements of TDMS between official new version launches?

A:   We have released 25 interim improvements and they have come about 6 months apart. Typically, these incorporate new features we have developed for a single client that could benefit other clients. Our commitment to continuous improvements in client productivity leads us to move new features to users upon completion of testing.

Q:    Does Lightspeed have a robust data recovery plan?

A:   Our plan provides for several levels of recovery, including:

    • Keeping source software tested and available in the case our processing site becomes disabled or inaccessible.
    • Remote connectivity from decentralized and centralized locations inside and outside of our home region.
    • Adequate insurance coverage to ensure continuity
    • Annual plan testing
